Paper Egg is an endeavor that seeks to use creativity and the vehicle of the mass audience of the web to shine light on the ultimate Creator.
When I was in the fourth grade, I was given a piece of paper with nothing on it but a blank egg. I was asked to create something out of this shape. Teachers would use those creations to determine which kids had creative minds and they would join a club called "Odyssey of the Mind". The first year I received this project I decided to play it safe because I didn’t wanna join a club. I knew exactly what the teachers wanted, but I decided to stifle my own creativity and I just drew a normal face on it. Needless to say, I didn’t get picked for the club.
In fifth grade, I had another opportunity to join Odyssey of the Mind. That year, I decided I wanted to be a part of the club and so I knew exactly what I was gonna do. I drew a crack in the egg and I made an alien hand coming out of it. I drew starfighters in space shooting at the alien creature, and it made for a very wild and out-of-the-box creation. I got picked for the club!
I've always had a creative mind. I mean, I knew exactly how to be creative and draw something that no one else would think of. I believe creativity is God-given. I also believe that everyone (as we are all made in His image) has a level of creativity in them. Sometimes, we repress that creativity, like I did the first time received that paper egg test. We repress out of fear. Sometimes we repress because we want to stick with the familiar. Its more comfortable. Sometimes we repress creativity because our minds are too cluttered with the wrong junk.
The goal of Paper Egg is to embrace creativity and shine a light on Jesus Christ. Its that simple. Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works." God has called us to worship Him and follow His mission. By nature, God is creative. Just take a look around our world. Even in the vast beauty of nature, the intricate details of oceans, land, mountains, weather, animals, insects, outer space, light, and air....He set apart a specific creation to be made in His image and to follow Him....THAT'S US!
It is a privilege to be God's complex creation, made in His image, to worship Him. We can worship Him by using our God-given creativity and broadcasting His name to the masses. There have been too many times in my adult life in which I have honestly held back or been distracted when it comes to using my creativity. Part of the purpose of the Paper Egg venture is to encourage creativity, keep myself accountable, and ultimately to move others to see the beauty of life in Christ.
