You Were Meant for More Than This!

I want to invite you to make more than a resolution with me this year.  Resolutions come and go, but I am convicted to truly begin living out a total and permanent transformation.  As we head into 2012, we will all begin thinking of ways that we can make our lives better.  We can set goals to become a better person, or to change something about ourselves or our circumstances to feel better.  However, if we simply reside in that sort of thinking, we miss out on something much bigger.

2011 has taught me in many different ways that life is SERIOUSLY not about me.  I could have told you that years ago, but I believe that I'm finally starting to embrace it.  As long as I live as if life were about me, I succumb to the mediocrity that is a comfortable human existence or even success in the eyes of the world.  Truthfully, I am meant for more than that.  YOU ARE TOO!

You are meant for more than just a simple job, a white picket fence, and a 401k.  You are meant for more than the addictions that hold you captive.  You were meant for more than a fantasy football championship!  You were meant for more than a college degree!  Consider the words of scripture:

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
Ephesians 2:10

The creator of this universe has uniquely designed you for a purpose.  In Christ, you are a new creation that God has prepared good works for long before you were ever born.

Consider a thought from Captain America.  Steve Rogers underwent a transformation to become the "ultimate soldier".  Shortly after the transformation was successful, instead of beating down Nazis and ending the war, he was singing show tunes.  A friend approached and reminded him, "you were meant for more than this, you know."

I want to approach you today, and say the words YOU WERE MEANT FOR MORE THAN THIS!

Don't just make a few resolutions this new year, pray that God would guide to live out His purposes daily.

Would you rather:
-Live comfortably?
-Be mediocre?
-Watch others change the world for better or worse?

or

Would you rather:
-Impact eternity?
-Leave a legacy?
-Live for something much bigger than you?

I don't know about you, but I want to impact eternity!  But what I have to realize is that its not about changing the world so that my name can glow on the marquee.  Its about being used by the one who created everything around us for purposes much greater than the small ones of this world.  It can never be about self pride.  This pride will lead to failure and it will lead to a lack of confidence!  Our confidence must come from God.

"Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."
1 John 4:4

Ask yourself and look around, "was I meant for more?"  Its not that the things around you aren't good.  Families are good.  Churches are good.  Friendships are good.  However, God's purposes are much greater!  Live for the greater, and God will take care of the good!  Listen to God, its time to start that new ministry.  Its time to finish that book.  Its time to boldly bring the gospel to work.  Its time give away money and totally trust in God.  Its time to travel the world with the gospel in hand.  Its time to take charge of your family's spiritual growth.

Let's begin 2012 by setting out to change the world!

Let's also do each other a favor.  Let's just not talk about it.  Let's do it.  And let's share it.  I would love to hear from you how you are embracing the more you were meant for.  I promise to share my experiences with you as well!
